God Never Blinks – 50 Lessons for Life’s Little Detours by Regina Brett. Let’s face it: we all go through setbacks, funks and detours on the journey of life. I picked this book up a couple of weeks ago and it spoke to me at the right time.

What I enjoyed most about the book is that it is real, authentic and I could relate to many of the author’s stories. In addition, not only was it entertaining, but it was also a great reminder to step back and appreciate the many blessings in my own life. We often times forget to do this in the age of instant communication, families, work, and other demands that require a continual juggling of time and priorities.

In this uplifting and thought provoking book Regina also shares:

*Why life is too short for pity parties and why we need to get busy living today

*How to turn major life change such as cancer, divorce, and guilt into strength and wisdom

*The power of momentum and taking action even when we feel overwhelmed

*Why it’s important to laugh at ourselves and not always take life so seriously

*The power of making peace with the past and others so it doesn’t screw up the present

*The power of now and staying in the present moment versus jumping ahead or living in the past

*Why forgiving ourselves and others, while difficult, is more powerful than carrying a grudge

Here’s a great passage from page 118:

“Accept and celebrate that you are in charge of your own happiness. You are officially appointed CEO of your own destiny. As one friend taught me, you can be happy or you can be miserable. It takes the same amount of effort.”
